Volunteers rights and responsibilities – Volunteering Queensland

No, but we do value specialist skills. Livestock, Band and Youth Marshals require additional experience, however the majority of roles do not need more than commitment and enthusiasm.

Yes, veterans primarily participate in the Anzac Day Parade and the majority of our volunteer cohort have no direct ties to the Australian Defence Force.

The Anzac Day Parade Brisbane Committee accepts volunteers from 18 years and over. Youth volunteering is coordinated through uniformed associations such as Scouts Australia.

The majority of roles are satisfied by the group Parade Briefs held throughout the year. However, buggy drivers are required to attend a familiarisation event in Yatala held early April.

Dependant on the disabilitty and, where necessary accompanied by a carer, we would investigate any suitable roles within the Parade. Otherwise send an enquiry and we will see how your skills would complement roles within the Parade.

We will ensure you receive the appropriate support to fulfill your allocated role, in advance or on the day. We always require a few new volunteers each year to replace those who relocate or commit elsewhere.

The current volunteer list is available here.

Water is available for volunteers and participants around the Parade. We look to obtain vouchers for local food outlets, however volunteers are not provided food. All volunteers will undertake a face to face briefing prior to the Parade. The Volunteer Coordinator is available to provide you with help and support on [email protected]

Yes, we already have RACQ as a corporate supporter supplying veteran transport drivers. By partnering with our event, Australian businesses can occasionally meet some of their corporate social responsibility goals through group volunteer opportunities for their employees.

Finally...

What are three things I’ll wish I had brought with me to volunteer on parade day?

A sense of humour, many veterans may have waited hours for their turn to march. A Poncho for wet weather, it can even happen in Queensland. Your ancestors’ medals, whether ADF or from another service, the volunteer marshals march round at the end of the Parade and it is an additional opportunity to honour their service.

A heartfelt thank you once again for your interest in volunteering for the Anzac Day Parade Brisbane. The Parade is possible because of amazing people like yourself and we hope the time you spend with us is rewarding and meaningful to you.
We look forward to working with you!
